I demonstrated Windows 7 at the May WinSIG, running on an Intel DG45FC mini desktop computer with an Intel core 2 duo E8500 (3.16GHz, 45nm 1333FSB 6MB L2 cache) with 4GB of DDR2 800 memory. The minibox will not support quad-core due to heat dissipation limitations.
You will need to log onto the Windows 7 download page to obtain software key for each version (32 or 64 bit), good until June 2010 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx
If you have not previously gotten a Windows Live ID, you will need to register at www.passport.net or http://home.live.com, using an existing e-mail address or with a new live.com, msn.com or hotmail.com account. If you sign up for a new live ID directly from the above webpage, you will have to fill out a form and verify your existing email address, then click on "continue" to get your key number.
Check that you can read email from that account before you submit the Live ID for verification. After you choose the language for a 32 or 64 bit key, you will see a page with a product key, and a big button "download now". Do not click on the download button, just print the page and then save the page, so you save the key number. Each key number may be activated up to three times.
Send an e-mail to kevin AT svcs.net (replace the "AT" with @ ) if you would like me to bring a DVD with either 32 bit or 64 bit to the Windows SIG at MicroCenter. I could also bring DVDs to the SPAUG meeting. Replacement blank DVDs would be appreciated.
